Socket Preservation After Extraction

After a tooth has been extracted, the bone that supported this tooth rapidly begins to go away. Dental socket preservation using bone grafting techniques conserve the tooth socket at the location where a dental implant can be successfully placed.

Immediately after tooth extraction, natural or synthetic bone is inserted into the tooth socket. The inserted bone preserves the height and width of the tooth socket. This way, after healing, you will have much more bone available for a proper sized dental implant.

Dental extraction and socket preservation is usually a painless procedure. Afterwards, mild soreness is usually controlled well with anti-inflammatory medication and ice. Various sedation techniques are available if you are at all anxious.

Dr. Sarosh Dastoor works very closely with your referring doctor in coordinating and communicating about your extraction and socket preservation appointments.
