Sedation Options for Anxiety-Free Treatment

Did you know that 30 percent of the population avoids the dentist due to fear?  This “dental phobia” prevents people from receiving necessary routine dental care, potentially compromising the health and functionality of the mouth and smile.  If you experience "dental phobia", there are many options to help you feel more relaxed and comfortable.

Sedation Dentistry is a safe way to reduce the fatigue of extended dental treatment requiring long visits. It can put you at ease and greatly eliminates the anxiety associated with dental procedure.

Below you will find a description of the various forms of sedation dentistry that Dr. Dastoor and his team offer.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation (Laughing Gas)

Nitrous oxide sedation is best suited for cases of mild to moderate anxiety and is the most frequently used sedation method in dentistry.  Nitrous oxide will put you at ease so you experience little to no discomfort; however, we will also administer a local anesthetic to ensure that you don't experience any pain. At this point in the procedure you'll be so relaxed that you'll hardly even notice.  Afterwards, you may not even remember much of the procedure. Patients generally recover quickly and can usually leave the office unescorted.

Benefits:
*Effective for mild to moderate anxiety
*Proven safety record
*Offers an analgesic (pain relieving) effect
*Quick-acting with few side effects
*You don't need someone to escort you to and from the office
*You can return to normal activities immediately

Oral Conscious Sedation

Oral conscious sedation utilizes oral sedative medication (no needles required) to significantly reduce your fears and discomfort.  You'll be asked to have a companion bring you to and from the office for your second visit. Once you arrive, you'll take additional medication to ensure that you're in a tranquil state of mind. We will monitor your comfort throughout your entire visit.

Benefits:

*Very effective for mild to moderate anxiety
*Safe and easy
*You can breathe and speak on your own
*Less expensive than IV SEDATION Oral conscious sedation will put you at ease so you experience little to no discomfort; however, your doctor will also administer a local anesthetic to ensure that you don't experience any pain.
